Nursery stock is a high-risk commodity for spreading the glassy-winged sharpshooter (GWSS). The first GWSS of the season begin to emerge at the same time as the nursery industry is selling and shipping 75 to 85 percent of their stock for the entire year.
The Pierce’s Disease Control Program (PDCP) oversees activities throughout the state to reduce the risk of GWSS spreading on nursery stock.
During January and February of 2019:
5,567 nursery stock shipments have been made from GWSS generally-infested areas to non-infested areas of the state. Of these, 1,420 were Approved Treatment Program (ATP) shipments.
One regulatory action has been taken this year due to a viable GWSS egg mass being found in a shipment.
