At the October 19 joint meeting of the PD/GWSS Board and PD Advisory Task Force held in Bakersfield the Board voted to designate as threats all mealybug pests of winegrapes and grapevine fanleaf virus.
“After the request to designate mealybugs and fanleaf virus as threats was received by the PD/GWSS Board, the Other Pests and Diseases Designation Committee began the process to see if they met the criteria required to receive the designations,” said Steve McIntyre, chairman of the committee. “Our review, which included input from the scientific community, clearly showed that mealybugs and grapevine fanleaf virus met the requirements for designation as a threat to California’s winegrapes.”
